How to track the countries you have visited using your photos

Step by step
Check that your photos have a location
In Photos, open a travel photo and swipe up. If a map appears, it can identify the country.
Add your city
In Backtrack, save your city in Where I live. It is what separates trips from everyday life.
Find your trips
Tap Automatic trip discovery to let the app look for periods away from home. The free plan reveals one trip automatically and you can create the others by choosing dates; with Premium they all appear on their own.
Open Achievements
The Your world card shows how many of the 195 countries and 7 continents you have visited. Tap View countries and continents for the full list, and see the flag collection further down.
Share
Every achievement has a share button and becomes a 9:16, 3:4 or 1:1 image for Stories, the feed or messages.
How countries are counted
- 195 countries
- The total counts the 193 UN member states plus the Vatican and Palestine. Territories such as Puerto Rico or Greenland are listed separately.
- Saved trips only
- A country counts once a saved trip has geotagged photos there.
- Unidentified destination
- If Apple Maps cannot identify a destination right away, it is offered for a retry without changing the other counts.
